Minister Sherlock congratulates Cork’s 6,825 Junior Certificate Students

THE Minister of State for Research and Innovation, Seán Sherlock T.D., has sent his congratulations to the 6,825 Leaving Certificate students in Cork who are receiving their examination results today.

 

3,421 female and 3,404 male students in Cork sat the Junior Certificate in June, out of a total of 58,798 nationally.

Sherlock welcomes job creation by seven start-up companies in Cork

MINISTER for Research and Innovation Sean Sherlock has welcomed today’s announcement  that  911 new  jobs will be created over the next  three years in  53 new high potential start up companies, 7 of which are located in Cork.

Today’s announcement relates to companies to which support has been provided in the first six months of 2012 under Enterprise Ireland’s High Potential Start-Ups Programme. Both the number of investments and the number of jobs to be created are significantly up on the same period last year (755 jobs/42 companies).   [Read more...]

New structures to create more jobs from ireland’s €800 million R&D budget

THE Minister for Research and Innovation Sean Sherlock T.D., together with the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton T.D., has announced new structures to make it easier to commercialise and ultimately create jobs from ideas developed through publicly-funded research, which currently receives total funding of over €800million per year.

The announcement represents the delivery of a key commitment in the Programme for Government and the Action Plan for Jobs 2012.

Disappointed at Job Losses

Seán Sherlock T.D., Minister for Research and Innovation, today [Wednesday] said he was very disappointed at today’s announcement of job losses at the at the Pfizer manufacturing facilities in Little Island and Ringaskiddy, Cork.

Minister Sherlock said: ‘Today’s announcement will come as a severe blow to the workers and their families. The focus now is to ensure maximum support and assistance for those workers affected by this announcement.

Sherlock welcomes announcement of 35 new jobs for Cork
