McCarthy welcomes referendum result

LABOUR TD for Cork South-West Michael McCarthy has welcomed the result of the Stability Treaty referendum and in particular the result in Cork South-West, where a yes vote of 66% was returned.

Deputy McCarthy says: “I am extremely pleased that the people of West Cork have voted Yes to the Stability Treaty after a prolonged but robust campaign. Along with the rest of the county, the people of West Cork have sent a confident message to Europe that Ireland is open for business, serious about recovery and worthy of investment.

Yes vote confirmed

ballot-box-largeWITH the final constituency declared, Ireland has voted in favour of the Lisbon Treaty by a margin of 67.1% to 32.9%

Cork South West proved to be the point of no return, when it declared yes it became mathematically impossible for the no side to prevail.

Only the two Donegal constituencies voted no, both by very narrow margins. Across the nation however the yes vote prevailed by a margin of more than two to one.

Yes in North Central

CORK North Central, the fourth highest no vote in the country at the last referendum has approved the Lisbon Treaty by a margin of 55.8% to 44.2%.

Turnout was 38,939 or 59.6%. The swing from no to yes was just over 20%.
