Positive response to Mitchell campaign on the ground claims TD

FINE Gael TD for Cork South Central, Jerry Buttimer, has said there is a positive response to the Mitchell for President campaign on the ground.

“The Mitchell for President campaign has really begun to gather momentum on the ground, following on from some very strong performances by Gay Mitchell in the media over the last few days.

“More and more people are getting to know who Gay Mitchell is, what he is about and what kind of President he will make.

“Our canvass teams, led by TDs, Senators and Councillors in Cork, are reporting very positive feedback from the people they are meeting.

“Much of the Presidential race up until now has been about bland, aspirational sound-bytes.

Michael D says Dana should have disclosed her US citizenship

THE front-runner in the race to become Ireland’s next president, Michael D Higgins has said that he believes it was inappropriate that rival candidate Dana Rosemary Scallon did not disclose her US citizenship before announcing her candidacy for the presidency.

Speaking at the official launch of his Munster campaign in Cork, Mr Higgins said that he believed the matter should be in the public realm and that it should be dealt with.

Cork says no to Norris

CORK County Council has dealt what could be a fatal blow to the campaign of David Norris to get the Dublin senator onto the presidential election ballot sheet.

Mr Norris needs the support of four local authorities to gain an official nomination but looks like he may fall one short.

Cork county councillors voted 20-9 against supporting his nomination while seven councillors abstained.
