MINISTER for Foreign Affairs Micheál Martin has welcomed the latest poll results showing steady support for the Lisbon Treaty but has stressed that an energetic Yes campaign must continue right up to the end of voting on October 2nd.
Minister Martin said, “It is already clear that people are willing to take the time to talk about why Ireland needs a Europe reformed by Lisbon and the detail of the new legal guarantees Europe has given to the Irish people.
“These guarantees are answering the concerns raised by people during last year’s referendum and have significantly changed the dynamic of this campaign.”

TODAY’S Irish Times /TNS mrbi poll indicates a close race for seats in the Ireland South Euro constituency in the upcoming election.
The figures, which are part of a wider poll published in today’s Irish Times show that Fianna Fáil’s Brian Crowley maintains his huge personal popularity as he is way out in front on 30 per cent, but after Crowley there is a real dogfight for seats.
Mr Crowley’s running mate, Cork East TD Ned O’Keeffe looks to be out of the race completely on just four per cent while Fine Gael’s front-runner is former GAA President, Sean Kelly who is showing at 16 per cent.

THE latest Red C political opinion poll, published in today’s Sunday Business Post, will bring little comfort to the Fianna Fáil party ahead of the elections.
The poll, which surveyed more than 1,000 voters, shows that Fine Gael is maintaining a big lead over the other parties and continues to stand ten points ahead of Fianna Fáil at 34 per cent. Support for Labour, the Greens and Sinn Féin fell off marginally in the survey (one to two points) whilst support for the Independents has actually increased two pointts to 12 per cent.
