Community funding welcomed

FIANNA Fáil city councillor Kenneth O’Flynn has welcomed the Community Development Grants for Shandon Area Renewal for graffiti removal, clean-up, washer service and hanging baskets.

“It was my honour to propose that €1,000 be made available through Community Development Grants for Shandon.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the community association for their diligent work, without them Shandon would be a forgotten place.

O’Flynn steps down

Cork North Central Fianna Fáil TD Noel O’Flynn has announced he will not be contesting the forthcoming General Election and has decided to retire from politics. Deputy O’Flynn made his decision after consulting with family members, supporters and Fianna Fáil Party Leader, Micheál Martin TD.

“This has been a very, very difficult decision to come to,” said Deputy O’Flynn. “Politics has been a huge part of my life and the thought of not being involved in the forthcoming General Election campaign is disappointing. However, after discussing the topic with my family, my friends, my supporters in Cork North Central and Fianna Fáil Party Leader, Micheál Martin, I think the best interests of the party are served if I retire from politics and do not go forward for the General Election.”

O’Flynn backs Martin

CORK TD Noel O’Flynn has become the first member of the parliamentary party to publicly back Micheál Martin as a replacement for Brian Cowen as leader of Fianna Fáil.

The outspoken TD who has been critical of the party leadership in the past has now called on Brian Cowen to resign as party leader and has asked party colleagues to come out in support of Micheál Martin.

O’Flynn challenged to vote down budget

WORKERS’ Party councillor Ted Tynan has challenged Fianna Fáil TD Noel O’Flynn to vote against tomorrow’s budget as it contains what Cllr Tynan described as “hidden pension cuts” for the elderly.

Cllr Tynan said that while Deputy O’Flynn had recently threatened to vote against the budget if it contained pension cuts, the measures already signalled in the four year national plan will “significantly reduce pensioners’ income in real terms”.

“He has no right to be upset about his being misled by the Taoiseach when for 13 years he himself has been a Government TD supporting governments which misled the whole country in the interests of a cabal of bankers, developers and wealthy men.

O’Flynn feels “betrayed”

CORK North Central Fianna Fáil TD Noel O’Flynn has said he feels betrayed, humiliated and misled by the actions of his own government.

Speaking to the Irish Examiner, he called on Brian Cowen to resign after the Budget and he warned he would not support the Budget if there are cuts to the old-age pension.

Retail Planning Guidelines must be maintained

Hope for lottery sports funding

FIANNA Fáil TD Noel O’Flynn has said that he hopes lottery funding for sports clubs and community organisations will return soon.

“The Sports Capital Programme is administered by the Department of Arts, Sport & Tourism and is part funded from proceeds of the National Lottery. Funding is provided from the programme to sporting & community organisations at Local, Regional & National level throughout the Country.
