Just behind Colm is Kathy Sinnott at 3/1 and sitting Senator Dan Boyle at 5/1.

Assuming her father Martin stands down, Sinn Fein’s Toireasa Ferris is odds-on at 1/3.

The Fianna Fáil stalwart seemed untouched by the devastation that left Ireland’s most powerful party in tatters.

Mr Crowley is characteristically modest about his success, but after fifteen years as an MEP it seems there is no magic secret – it’s just hard work, and more hard work.
