PROPOSALS from Housing Minister Michael Finneran to enter into leasing arrangements with developers for 2,000 empty houses around the country are a waste of money according to Cork Labour Party TD, Ciarán Lynch.
Deputy Lynch said, “I asked the Minister for details about the how this scheme would work, because I am profoundly concerned that the result will be a bail-out for developers who have housing stock on hand, but that the taxpayer will have nothing to show for it at the end of the day.
“Today, the Minister confirmed that under the scheme the state will hand over somewhere in the region of €240,000 per house over 20 years, but that at the end of the period, the developer will continue to own the property. We will be forking out half a billion euro, but will own nothing.”
