Fianna Fáil TD Billy Kelleher has expressed grave concern about the Government’s ongoing failure to address the growing rate of suicide.

 

The Cork North Central Deputy has described as ‘inexcusable’ the Government’s failure to fill the key post of Director of the National Office for Suicide Prevention for a year. He has also said the funding provided for suicide prevention is ‘disgracefully low’ while the number of people taking their own lives in communities across Ireland remains on the increase. Latest figures underline abject failure of Govt & banks to tackle mortgage arrears crisis

FIANNA Fáil Finance Spokesperson Michael McGrath has said the government and the banks appear to be paralysed by the scale of the mortgage crisis and are failing to address it in a meaningful way.

The Central Bank confirmed today that 83,251 or 10.9% of all private residential mortgages are now in arrears of more than 90 days. A further 40,221 mortgages have been restructured but are not in arrears. [Read more...]
