Government should not assume apathy means indifference

CORK Workers’ Party Councillor Ted Tynan has said that the government and others on the Yes side in the EU fiscal treaty would be making a huge mistake if they assumed that the poor turnout in the referendum meant people were indifferent to austerity and mass unemployment.

Cllr Tynan said that the Northside of the city had delivered a massive rejection of the government’s policies which was only hidden because rural votes in the North Central constituency had masked the true scale of public anger.

McCarthy welcomes referendum result

LABOUR TD for Cork South-West Michael McCarthy has welcomed the result of the Stability Treaty referendum and in particular the result in Cork South-West, where a yes vote of 66% was returned.

Deputy McCarthy says: “I am extremely pleased that the people of West Cork have voted Yes to the Stability Treaty after a prolonged but robust campaign. Along with the rest of the county, the people of West Cork have sent a confident message to Europe that Ireland is open for business, serious about recovery and worthy of investment.

Collins and Clune stress the importance of a yes vote on 31st May

Speaking on the eve of a breakfast meeting calling on women to vote Yes in the upcoming Stability Treaty Referendum, Fine Gael female public representatives, Senator Deirdre Clune from Cork South Central and Deputy Áine Collins from Cork North West, said it is in every citizen’s interest that a Yes vote is secured on 31st May.
