Local referenda can bring significant benefits

GREEN Party Senator and European Election candidate, Senator Dan Boyle, has welcomed the comments of the Minister for the Environment, John Gormley TD, that a major initiative in the soon to be published White Paper on Local Government and the legislation that will follow that, will be the introduction of local referenda to decide matters of important local interest.
The Minister made his comments while canvassing Carrigaline with Senator Boyle and local election candidate Cllr Dominick Donnelly this week.

GREEN Party town councillor in Passage West and county council candidate in the Carrigaline area, Cllr Dominick Donnelly unveiled a cartoon-style anti-incineration poster – today at the Shannonpark Roundabout, just outside Carrigaline.

He was joined at the event by the Green Party candidate for the South Euro constituency, Senator Dan Boyle.

Donnelly welcomes tougher planning laws

GREEN Party election candidate for the Carrigaline area of Cork County Council and for Passage West Town Council, Cllr Dominick Donnelly, has welcomed the changes to planning laws announced yesterday by Environment Minister John Gormley .

Under the Planning and Development (Amendment) Bill, 2009 a number of new rules will be introduced relating to how planning decisions are made including legislation which sets out that a two-thirds majority on the county or city council will be required in order to zone land.

New legislation to regulate management companies

GREEN Party candidate for the Carrigaline area, Cllr Dominick Donnelly has welcomed the introduction of the Multi-Unit Developments Bill which will help regulate management companies.

The Bill sets out new legislation on service charges, house rules and the resolution of disputes between management companies and apartment owners.

Cllr Donnelly said, “Over the past decade, we saw a large increase in the building of apartments and small housing estates and the existing legislation under which property management companies currently operate is inadequate to deal with and resolve the various difficulties being experienced by individual apartment owners.”

Green Party Leader visits Cork

GREEN Party Leader and Environment Minister John Gormley is visiting Cork today and tomorrow.

During the visit he will attend a number of events across the county and lend his support to a number of Green Party candidates in the upcoming elections including Senator Dan Boyle who is standing in the European election.

On Friday he will attend an event at the Lifetime Lab, Lee Road where he will present An Taisce Green Flag awards to schools from Cork City and Waterford City.
