“What we need now, and there is huge attitude out there for it, is clear defined policies that will lead to job prospects for the 430,000 plus that are unemployed in the country.”

A LACK of appropriate legislation governing the payment of court maintenance orders are leaving lone parents and their children in limbo according to Deputy Deirdre Clune, Fine Gael TD for Cork South Central who says the new legislation addressing this matter needs to be implemented immediately.
“Many parents have contacted my office expressing a concern for the fact that have been granted maintenance payment through the court system and now the person who is due to pay the maintenance is ignoring that court order.

Olwyn Enright
OLWYN Enright’s decision not to stand at the next General Election is blow both to the Fine Gael party and to women of all parties in the Dáil according to Deputy Deirdre Clune, one of the four remaining female TDs in Fine Gael among 48 male TDs.
“As a young thirty-something woman with a lot to offer in terms of her legal background, her political experience at local and national level and her commitment to serving her constituents she embodied the type of person we need to encourage into the Dáil. IGNORED warning signs about and the lack of a comprehensive policy to tackle TB are the root causes of the latest scare in Cork according to local TD, Deirdre Clune who has now called on the Minister for Health to initiate a full review of TB services including screening and vaccination procedures.
“Parents across Cork City whose children are returning to school next week know that their children have no protection against TB because babies born in Cork were not offered the BCG vaccination. Unlike other parts of the country the provision of the BCG vaccination to babies born in Cork hospitals was suspended for a number of years only to be reintroduced in 2008 following another TB outbreak in Cork.”

AGE Action Ireland is expanding it’s Care & Repair scheme in Cork to look after elderly people and their needs. Local TD Deirdre Clune has welcomed the news saying there are many people in Cork who are in need of help around the house but don’t have the confidence or finances to do them.
“Over the last number of weeks I have met a number of people while out canvassing who were living alone or no longer in the prime of their health and found it difficult to do odd jobs in their homes. Many people were interested in Age Action Ireland’s Care & Repair Scheme and it’s wonderful news to hear that Age Action Ireland has appointed a Development Officer in Cork to expand and promote the scheme.
