Progress with commercial rates revaluation programme essential

FINE Gael Cork East TD, David Stanton, has called for the Valuation Office to extend their revaluation programme to Cork without delay.

The revaluation programme, which determines the amount of commercial rates paid by businesses to local authorities, has been in place in Dublin since 2005, but it has still not been extended to the rest of the country.

Commercial Rates undermining survival of SMEs

COMMERCIAL rates are crippling local business according to Fianna Fáil’s Kenneth O’Flynn.

He said that the biggest problem facing local SMEs is the heavy burden of rates.

According to the north side councillor, “There is what they call actual and anecdotal evidence which suggests that commercial rates are now forcing businesses to close.

“I am strongly of the view that the situation is likely to get worse over the next couple of years if no remedial action is taken.

Government asked to revalue commercial rates

FIANNA Fáil councillor Kenneth O’Flynn has called on the Government to begin a revaluation of commercial rate valuations.

“The last significant valuation of commercial property has been carried out since 2007 the height of the property boom in order to cut rates for business and protect jobs, 170,000 properties were valued at the height of the boom back in 2007, no substantial valuation has taken place since. Businesses are paying boom rates but taking in recession receipts.
