OUTGOING Lord Mayor of Cork, Fine Gael’s Cllr Brian Bermingham delivered his farewell speech at City Hall tonight.

Handing over to his Fine Gael colleague Cllr Dara Murphy, Cllr Bermingham said that he was most proud of the development of the music in schools programme he has championed during his tenure.

He also said he was proud of strengthening ties between the city and county councils during his year in office and a deliberately inclusive approach to Cork’s varied cultures and traditions.

Lord Mayor opens major new projects

THE Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr Brian Bermingham joined officials from City Hall yeterday to open of four major city infrastructural projects which, it is hoped , will contribute to the role of the City as an attractive, vibrant and diverse place to live, work, shop and enjoy recreational activities.
The projects involved were the refurbishment of College Road, the completion of the Mardyke Walk and the official opening of the Mardyke Skate Park and Kingsley Bridge.

Freedom of Cork awarded to two key religious figures

THE Freedom of the city was yesterday awarded to two of the Cork’s key religious figures at a  special meeting of Cork City Council at City Hall.
Dean Denis O’Connor and Sister Eucharia Buckley were bestowed with the honourable title following a proposal put forward by the Lord Mayor, Cllr Brian Bermingham earlier this year in efforts to recognise their immense contribution to the advancement of religious values and the spiritual and religious well-being of the people of Cork.
