“I am pleased that An Garda Síochána are launching this new service today. The Justice Committee held a series of hearings on the subject of missing persons which culminated in our report which was published earlier this month. The establishment of a Child Rescue Ireland (CRI) system was one of its main recommendations.
“I believe that Child Rescue Ireland will be similar to the internationally recognised amber alert system used whenever a child is missing and deemed to be at immediate risk.
“CRI seeks the assistance of the public when investigating child abduction cases by publicising relevant information and details which could facilitate the public in identifying the abducted child, suspect or vehicles involved in the abduction. This information is then passed onto An Garda Síochána to support their investigations.
“An effective Child Rescue Ireland Alert system should be of great assistance to families of missing children and our police force. I am very pleased that An Garda Síochána are launching this new service today.”
