FIANNA Fáil Health Spokesperson Billy Kelleher TD has hit out at what he has described as ‘the Labour Party’s sickening hypocrisy’ on NAMA. Deputy Kelleher’s comments came after he was ejected from Dáil Éireann for trying to tackle Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore on the subject.
Deputy Kelleher commented, “In the Dáil today, Eamon Gilmore stood up and welcomed the stimulus initiative of NAMA as the agency begins to invest in completing a series of developments it has taken control of. He presented it as part of his Government’s plan. While I welcome the fact NAMA is doing what it was designed and established by my late colleague Brian Lenihan to do, I find the Tánaiste’s hypocrisy on the subject sickening.
“Like so much of what this Government claims to have achieved, this latest progress is based on Fianna Fáil decisions which the Labour Party fought tooth and nail, trading only in fake anger and cynicism. The Tánaiste should be called on his hypocrisy and asked to explain his change of heart to the Irish people.”
“Lest we forget, people should be reminded of some of the Labour Party’s highlights on the issue of NAMA:
The day Eamon Gilmore described supporters of NAMA as ‘TOSSERS’: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjAO_Io_AjI
Joe Costello 13 October 2009: “NAMA is the saviour of the property developers, speculators and the banking system precisely because this measure operates against the best interests of the taxpayers.
Eamon Gilmore October 14 2009: “Rather than moving to prevent another crisis of this kind, NAMA will preserve the very interests and structures that brought it about in the first place.”
