O’Flynn confirms he will seek Fianna Fáil Nomination

Kenneth O'Flynn

Cork City Councillor Kenneth O’Flynn has confirmed in a letter to the Fianna Fáil City Comhairle last evening that he will seek nomination to stand as a Fianna Fáil candidate for the next local elections. The outspoken Fianna Fáil councillor said ‘it was a great honour to represent the views of the people of Cork and I will therefore be seeking the nomination for re election to Cork City Council for the North Central Ward.’

O’Flynn who lost the Fianna Fail whip in December 2011 for voting against the Cork City Council budget said he stands over his decision saying it was the right thing to do. ‘I am a Cork man first and a Fianna Fail man second. Peoples needs have always to be put above the needs of the party.’ Speaking with journalists last evening O’Flynn stated ‘You can see this every day in our city, the difficulties and challenges we have in our City. We have a limited roads budget, a dismal housing budget for housing maintenance for the elderly and our backs are to wall in every department of Cork City Council trying to make savings and deliver a service to the citizens of the City. We suffered a €16 million decrease in our budget allocation from the Fine Gael / Labour government in Cork City. I could not in any way shape or form support such a cut and I will continue to oppose any cut that affects the running of this city. ’

In conclusion O’Flynn went on to say ‘We have great a city, a city with huge potential to deliver a metropolitan Cork. We have the possibility of attracting large IT industries.  We have the possibility of attracting businesses in need of fourth generation buildings in our dock lands. The potential of the City needs to be unlocked, but it does so by electing doers rather than talkers. This is why I want to continue to represent the people of Cork’
