LABOUR TD Ciaran Lynch today welcomed news that pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly is to invest €330 million in its Kinsale plant.
“Creating over 200 highly skilled permanent jobs and generating 300 jobs in its construction, this is a great day for Cork. This large scale investment by a global player like Eli Lilly is a huge vote of confidence in the local area, and coupled with the plant’s other base in the Cork region, it is a testament to Eli Lilly’s enduring commitment to Cork.
“These highly skilled jobs are exactly the type of jobs which the Irish economy needs to be attracting. Ireland is continuing to be a leading player in the pharmaceutical industry; and announcements like this mean that Irish workers will now be leading the fight against illnesses such as cancer and diabetes.
“As outlined in the Government’s Action Plan for Jobs, the Government is actively working on cutting red tape to make it easier for pharmaceutical multinationals to set up in Ireland. Eli Lilly’s announcement is proof that the Government’s message is getting out to the international business community.
“I would like to wish Eli Lilly continued success in Ireland and wish them a speedy completion of their new plant.”
