FIANNA Fáil Health Spokesperson Billy Kelleher TD has called on the Minister for People with Disabilities Kathleen Lynch TD to immediately clarify the level of cuts which have been made to the budgets of service providers of people with disabilities.
“The HSE has told providers of services to people with disabilities they will be receiving a 4.7per cent cut in funding.
“This is in stark contrast to what Disabilities Minister Kathleen Lynch claimed on Monday when she said that the cut would be 2per cent.
`“This doubling of a cut in less than two days is an unsettling development. That it once again targets one of the most vulnerable groups in our society is outrageous.
“The key question is: What is the total cut to the disability budget? Is it 2per cent? Is it 4.7per cent? Or is it even higher?
“Why announce a 2per cent cut, and then instruct the HSE to cut 4.7per cent?
“This is a sneaky and underhanded way of dealing with organisations which provide such a vital service to people with Intellectual, Mental Health, Physical and Sensory disabilities.
“The Minister should be straight with these people who do such valuable work.
“This Government’s treatment of people with disabilities in this budget has been a disgrace.
“This underhanded move, paired with the Government’s decision to target income supports for young people with disabilities, is further proof that this budget was unfair and socially regressive,”
He said.
