HOUSING projects for people with special needs in Cork city have been given the go ahead according to Cork North Central TD and Minister for State, Billy Kelleher. In total 46 housing units will be created throughout the city under the Government scheme.

Respond in Mayfield will receive funding for 14 units, Simon Community in Boreenmanna Road will get funding for three units, Cluid will receive funding for 12 units in various locations throughout the city while Galtan will receive funding for eight units in Parc na Greine, six in Fullers Road and three in Sion Villas.

“These units will be welcomed with open arms by those with special needs in Cork city and their families. That includes older people, homeless people or persons with intellectual, mental or physical disabilities.

“The housing associations in question provide practical and functional support to these people and allow them to live independently in their own communities. They also provide support services such as communal meals, laundry and on-site security.

“These houses will be a worthwhile addition to the community and I know the housing associations will put the funding to very good use. I look forward to seeing these units completed in the near future,” Minister Kelleher concluded.
