Gas reduction confirms prices already too high

gas+hob_760_18195689_0_0_7001195_300FINE Gael Energy Spokesman, Simon Coveney has welcomed the proposed 8 per cent reduction in gas prices but said that this decrease should have been granted in September.

“This confirms the that case that I’ve been making for the last six months, that gas prices are too high and that the combination of currency exchange rate changes and a collapse in international gas prices means that Irish consumes should be enjoying cheaper gas prices.

“This 8 per cent should have been granted in September but, nevertheless, is welcome. While exporters are suffering due to the devaluation of sterling, the gas and electricity market should be enjoying much cheaper prices as imported fuel is cheaper, this is particularly in the case for gas as we import 95 per cent of our gas from the UK.”
