drugsA MEETING of the Joint Policing Committee will take place on Monday, July 6 at City Hall to discuss the growing drugs problem in Cork city.

Speaking in advance of the meeting Lord Mayor, Cllr Dara Murphy, said, “Chief Superintendent Liam Hayes will attend, as well as members of our own City Council Housing & Community Directorate.

“We also hope to have doctors involved with drugs users attend, as well as councillors, TDs and other community groups and stakeholders.
“We will be asking what the City Council can do to help the Garda Siochána in their efforts and also what help do we at City Council need from the Gardaí.

“There is extremely good work ongoing at the moment and the Joint Policing Committee has been very active in tackling problems.

“The point of the meeting is to ensure there is public confidence in what is being done.  There is a problem there and we want to address it,” he concluded.
