IN response to the mortgage crisis the Citizens Information Board has established a Mortgage Arrears Information Helpline to provide information and guidance in relation to the Code of Conduct on Mortgage Arrears and the support which is available for those in mortgage arrears or pre-arrears.
The helpline is being provided for callers with mortgages on residential property only. Senator Deirdre Clune is welcoming the new Mortgage Arrears helpline.
“I would like to encourage people who are in difficulty meeting their mortgage repayments or who are worried about their situation to phone the helpline and seek advice on their specific circumstances.
“People in this extremely tough situation need an understanding ear but also sound advice which will gradually help them towards finding a practical solution to their financial problems.
“The helpline will offer independent and confidential information to people who are in mortgage arrears or at pre-arrears stage. This service will provide the facts which people may not be able to find otherwise.
“The helpline can offer information on alternative repayment arrangements, the state support services available and dedicated arrears contact points of mortgage lenders. It can also explain the lender’s appeal processes.
“It is important that people have alterative places to go for guidance other than just their bank.”
