Weather Alert for Icy Conditions

In response to a Weather Alert from Met Éireann, Cork City Council is advising all road users to take special care when using the roads in the coming days.

Lowest temperatures of zero to -4 degrees are predicted over the next 3 days with frost and icy patches developing as winds ease and clear spells develop. Highest temperatures today will be only 1 to 4 degrees and icy conditions will become widespread

Neary should return €600k

sean-sherlock-bigCORK East Labour TD Seán Sherlock is calling on former Financial Regulator Pat Neary to return the pay-off he received from the State on his retirement. Speaking in the aftermath of RTÉ’s Prime Time Investigates feature on the banking system, Deputy Sherlock said, “Amongst the myriad of problems presented by the programme, a common factor presented itself, the regulator. Mr Neary oversaw a period of reckless lending practices by the banks and did nothing.

“First hand accounts of how credit committees were mere ‘window dressing’ for the financial institutions will rightly anger the taxpayers who are now paying for laissez-faire attitude of the Financial Regulator during the last decade.

€250,000 for Coppeen National School

THE Minister for Education and Science, Batt O’Keeffe TD, has announced €250,000 for a major extension project in Coppeen National School, Enniskeane, Co Cork.

The grant will be used to build two extra classroom, convert two of the existing smaller classrooms into one larger classroom, and provide ancillary accommodation.

On a visit to the school, Minister O’Keeffe said it had strong educational record and deep roots in the community.

€150,000 for guide dogs centre in Cork

Roy-KeaneTHE Minister for Education Batt O’Keeffe today announced €150,000 for Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind to help the centre develop its assistance dogs programme for children with autism.

Minister O’Keeffe said he was delighted to secure the funding for the centre whose national headquarters is based on Model Farm Road in Cork.

On a visit to the centre, Minister O’Keeffe said he had been personally touched by the work of chief executive Pádraig Mallon and his team who have improved the quality of life of hundreds of people living in challenging circumstances.
