FINE Gael councillor for Cork North Central, Cllr Patricia Gosch has warmly welcomed the news announced today that the proposed redevelopment of the Spriggs Road flats is to go ahead.
“This is fantastic news. I have been lobbying hard to get this multiple- million euro project off the ground and am delighted that it has now got the green light. It’s great to get some good news in these troubled times and I know that the project, when completed will make a huge difference to the local area,” she said.

Batt O Keeffe
THE Minister for Education and Science, Batt O’Keeffe TD, has paid tribute to 64 students graduating with further education certificates in Fermoy saying the awards celebrate their achievements and reward their efforts.
Speaking at an awards ceremony in Coláiste an Chraoibhín in Fermoy yesterday evening, Minister O’Keeffe said the certificates from the Further Education and Training Awards Council (FETAC) show there are now greater upskilling opportunities and more people have the chance to take part in lifelong learning.

Cloyne
CORK East Fine Gael TD, David Stanton has called on Cork County Council to bring to an end the 25-year saga of derelict houses at River Street, Cloyne.
“Cloyne is one of the most historic areas in East Cork. Its ecclesiastical heritage goes back almost 1,500 years.
“Visitors travelling from Midleton to Cloyne and those travelling onto Shanagarry and Ballycotton on the R629 will encounter a row of derelict houses at the entrance to Cloyne on the right hand side.

FISHERIES is one of the portfolios that is subject to the most profound procedural changes under the Lisbon Treaty according to Labour Party senator, Michael McCarthy.
The treaty provides for the introduction of co-decision powers, between the European Parliament and the Council of Ministers in the development of fisheries policy.
The treaty also allows for the establishment of Regional Advisory Councils in the area of fisheries.

Bernard Allen
CORK TD and Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, Bernard Allen has welcomed the decision by Cork City Council not to proceed with the relocation of the St Mary’s Road Library to a retail park in Blackpool.
It was proposed that the library, built in the 1970s, be replaced which was agreed by members of the council. However, it later emerged that city authorities had entered into an agreement with a property developer to relocate the library to a retail unit in the Blackpool Retail Park at a cost to the taxpayer of more than €100,000 per year.
