THE prospect of Cork City FC closing down will not resolve the issue of the outstanding debt, and even at this late stage, every effort must be made to ensure the survival of the club according to Labour TD Ciarán Lynch.
Deputy Lynch said, “A massive amount of work has been done in recent days in a bid to meet the debt, and as late as today, Glasgow Celtic have indicated that they will visit to play in a fundraising match.
“I appreciate that the Revenue Commissioners have a job to do, but by pressing for the winding up of the club, they will be throwing the baby out with the bathwater. I would urge them to show maximum flexibility in this regard.

Billy Kelleher
MINISTER for Trade and Commerce, Cork TD Billy Kelleher today published the Companies Report 2008.
Minister Kelleher said, “The 83rd Companies Report has been modernised and streamlined to take account of the online environment in which it will be predominantly read with direct links to the Annual Reports of the Company Law enforcement bodies replacing the synopses of their activities that was included in previous years.
According to the report Ireland now ranks fifth out of 181 economies surveyed in terms of ease of starting up a business.

THE Minister for Transport, Noel Dempsey visited Cork today to officially open the new Cork to Midleton rail line.
The development follows a €75 million investment in the infrastructure under the Government’s Transport 21 Strategy.
Minister Dempsey travelled on the first passenger train on the line from Kent Station in Cork to Midleton at 12.15pm to open new stations at Carrigtwohill and Midleton.

Mick Barry
THE first meeting of the newly elected HSE Southern Regional Health Forum will take place in County Hall this afternoon.
Amongst those in attendance will be Socialist Party councillor Mick Barry who is joining the forum for the first time.
Cllr Barry was actually ejected from the Forum by security last September following protests in the forum gallery to demand the opening of the Mercy’s then idle A&E unit.

THE National Roads Authority has given Cork County Council the go-ahead to publish the compulsory purchase order (CPO) for the 22km dual carriageway between Ballyvourney and Macroom, according to the Minister for Education and Science and local TD, Batt O’Keeffe.
The CPO will show the area of land it has identified for the bypass project.
Minister O’Keeffe said, “The National Roads Authority (NRA) has informed me that Cork County Council has finished studying the blueprint for the new bypass and it has identified the zone for CPO.
