And the most incongruous aspect of it all is that this organisation is the same one which helps you save energy by insulating your house and upgrading your heating system. Then when it is done you are penalized. But it is an neat trick to manage to get paid more when you produce less.
I am beginning to feel like I've, like Alice, walked through the looking glass.

Mick a chara, could you please do something about the County Council locking up vacant housing in our estate Inismhór (West End) Ballincollig. It is unsightly and devalues our property! it also makes the place look like a prison with those heavy metal shutters. Why not sell or let these lovely homes to needy people? It discourages our neighborhood spirit to be treated like this and is very depressing. Just come out and see for yourself please.

Whats the point in making a comment, this government take no account of people ability to pay, or seem to care of the hardship people are in, and continue to blame the EU for our reasons to have to pay, what a cop out. If they really cared, then they would introduce a propoerty tax, but make it low, i.e. Euro50. This gives a tax, satisfies the EU and makes it far easier to pay. Why can they be honest and tell the truth, they dont care about the people who voted for them and are just getting money, regardless of pain or suffering, and sorry, but as your government we really dont care.

Iceland and the Faroe Islands aren't in the EU (they had more sense). It's a bit rich of Minister Coveney to be criticising the Icelanders and Faroese when the EU itself is doing its best to wipe out fish stocks and grab the Icelandic and Faroe's stocks. At least Iceland has shown some gumption as a nation. They set up fishing zones around their country and when the British came in with gunboats the Icelandic trawlermen just rammed them. If successive Irish governments had been more like the Icelandic ones and protected our fisheries against EU and other fishing nations we might not have had the same level of fish stock depletion as we have today. Instead our fisheries were given away, like our gas, and probably now our oil.

I have set up the following as an oline petition which can be accessed http://www.petitionbuzz.com/petitions/lifttheban

The Dursey Island cable car has been in operation since 1969 and for the past 43 years has been used to transport people, goods and animals.

There was no prior consultation with the Islanders and in August 2011 two representatives from the Council came to Dursey Island and announced that the weight limits would be imposed and that cattle could no longer be transported but the cable car would still carry smaller animals. In recent times this status has changed to a NO ANIMALS policy.

The Council has made an alternative suggestion of a barge. This is not feasible due to two reasons:

1)In poor weather conditions Dursey Island sound consists of strong currents and thus it will not be able to travel;

2)In the event of an emergency and an animal needing to be taken off the island, the barge may not be made available.

Swimming cattle is not an option as they could potentially get hypothermia and a local vet has confirmed this in writing and he has forwarded it to the Council.

Islanders to date have not been informed of any alternative strategy or resolution.

?In addition to this, under the constitution the state is under a duty to protect your right to work and earn a livelihood from unjust attack The blanket ban on animals being transported on the cable car is a blatant infringement on Islander's rights to make a living.

The Cable Car has 43 years unblemished safety record. Health and Safety is not the issue! In a report entitled "Report on works carried out on Dursey Island Cable car on the June 1st & 2nd 2011" it states that "30 number blocks which weighed 577.78kg (1,271 lbs) and ran the car out to the island station and back to the mainland station. We then checked all cables, ties and grip clips. Everything appeared in order. We then loaded an extra 20 number blocks on the car giving a load weight of 963kgs (2,118 lbs) and ran the car to the island station and back to the mainland station. Everything appeared to be in order". In a track rope test on the 8th of October 2009 again weights were used and the comment that was made was that "operation ran smoothly". The Council are trying to use Health and Safety as an excuse as they are currently trying to secure funding from Board Failte so they have to play to Board Failte's demands. It is a crying shame because the majority of tourists enjoy observing animals being transported on the cable car.

Research has shown that grazing semi-natural grassland is essential to maintain their biodiversity, if farming practices are ended on the island it will have major environmental consequences. Please do not hesitate to contact me on this matter.

Yours, etc.

The reason TFC is discussed is that we don't manage catches, the reason we discuss kW days id because we don't manage catches and the reason we have numerous rules and controls is because we don't manage catches. Catch Quota Management where all catches are counted against the quota is the silver bullit to fire - it will lead to precise outtake, it will reduce the incentive to discard and establish the necesssary platform for the gradual phasing in of a discard ban.

So people are beating Ciarán Lynch's door down to pay an auterity tax, the Household Charge, which is part of the EU/IMF deal? What Deputy Lynch is saying is that more taxpayer's money needs to be spent because the government is losing the propaganda war on this unjust tax. His party which went into government telling people it would protect ordinary people is now the cheerleader for more austerity charges and cuts. Poor James Connolly must be turning in his grave to think that the party he founded, Labour, is now leading the attack on working people and Fine Gael are only trotting after them.
