THE government has announced the establishment of a small Entrepreneurship Advisory Forum to offer advice and support the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation in order to influence policy in the area of entrepreneurship.  The Forum will be chaired by entrepreneur and investor Sean O’ Sullivan. Fine Gael Spokesperson in the Seanad for Jobs, Innovation and Research Deirdre Clune is welcoming his involvement in the Forum.

Senator Deirdre Clune is calling on schools and the Minister for Education to implement a more flexible approach to school book usage in order to cut down the costs of sending children to school. Fianna Fáil TD for Cork South Central, Micheál Martin TD, has expressed his disappointment at the announcement that 136 jobs may be lost with the closure of the Pfizer Plant in Little Island.
Pfizer confirmed today that they will seek a buyer for their Little Island plant and move operations to the Ringaskiddy plant.

Deirdre Clune, the Fine Gael spokesperson for jobs, research and innovation in the Seanad is welcoming the second intake of Maths teachers for the Professional Diploma in Maths for Teaching.

The programme is aimed at improving the skills of “out-of-field” maths teachers at post-primary level, and is provided through a consortium led by the National Centre for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching & Learning based in the University of Limerick.   [Read more...]

Fine Gael Cork South Central Deputy and Chair of the Oireachtas Committee on Health, Jerry Buttimer, has said the Higgin’s Report on the Establishment of Hospital Groups and the Small Hospital Framework, which has been approved by Cabinet today (Tuesday), signals a new dawn in the organisation of our hospitals which will ultimately mean better outcomes for patients.
